Drinking Water Act Requires Brass-Body Fittings In All Potable Water System

The National Mmechanical Code has been updated with a critical change that affects all buildings. The new code no longer allows valves, fittings, pump bodies or other components within potable water systems to include lead in their metal alloy construction. All exising fittings and equipment are grand-fathered into the code, however, all new installations will now require non-leaded, brass-body fittings.

The new lead-free fitings are typically identifiable by either a designated "Lead-Free" embossed stamp in the body of the component, or by a white valve handle on lead-free valves.
